In the early 1970’s, company founder Rattan Chadha was busy supplying department stores and wholesalers with clothes designed and labelled specifically for them.

By 1980 a new business approach was structured with the introduction of two new labels: Moustache for men and Emanuelle for women. The two international apparel lines had coordinated collections reflecting lifestyle and young fashion.

The company name was officially changed to MEXX in 1986 when the two labels were brought together to simplify and strengthen the company and its product image. The ‘marriage’ of the two labels actually led to the formation of the new company name. MEXX is a clever combination of the Moustache (M) and Emanuelle (E) lines, united with two kisses (XX). Since then MEXX has become an internationally prominent company enjoying massive global success and employing over 6,000 people worldwide.

In 1995 the first MEXX flagship store in Canada opened in Montreal, Quebec.

Another major milestone marriage involving MEXX took place in May 2001. MEXX was acquired by Liz Claiborne Inc. in the United States. Liz Claiborne’s portfolio consists of 44 brands making LCI one of the world’s largest multi-brand apparel, accessories, and fragrance companies.

At the end of 2006, after 20 magnificent years of building the MEXX empire, founder and CEO Rattan Chadha relinquishes his post and steps down remaining in a supervisory role throughout 2007.

MEXX continues to be optimistic, non-conforming, inspiring, and fun. MEXX products are contemporary and affordable and are available in more than 65 countries around the world.
